The tornado was on the ground for approximately 3.75 miles before ending near Camp Lake, Wisconsin.

The tornado’s maximum width was approximately 150 yards,
according to a damage path surveyed by NWS Chicago and Milwaukee researchers.

According to officials, the tornado was one of several reported
during Monday’s derecho, which packed dangerously gusty winds and torrential
downpours. The storms prompted tornado warnings across the area, including in
Lake County and Kenosha County, and left hundreds of thousands of customers
without electricity.

Another tornado was confirmed in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood at approximately 3:59 p.m. Monday. That tornado packed wind speeds of up to 110 miles per hour, and traveled for approximately three miles before moving onto Lake Michigan and becoming a waterspout.

Google Chrome is running into serious problems with the latest version of Windows 10

MORE FROM FORBESGoogle’s New Tab Groups Reinvigorate Chrome BrowserBy Gordon Kelly

Making the eye-catching render issues on macOS seem quaint, Google has confirmed that since Microsoft’s massive Windows 10 ‘May 2020’ update Chrome can no longer keep users signed-in, sync data, store cookies, remember passwords or third party extension data – sometimes deleting the extension completely. Moreover, Google saw this coming two months ago.

In a bug report filed back in April, Google engineers confirmed multiple problems with the Windows 10 May 2020 update, then still in beta testing. Strangely, Techdows spotted the report was subsequently marked as ‘WontFix’ before later being reopened. With Microsoft stating last week that it is now accelerating the May 2020 rollout, despite no fix being found, more and more Chrome users are being affected and complaints are growing (1,2,3,4,5, etc).

The problem here seems to be accountability. I suspect that Google initially believed the problem lay with the Windows 10 May 2020 update and waited for a Microsoft fix. But the combination of Google reopening investigations and Microsoft accelerating the update’s rollout suggests this may come down to Google. Users are also reporting that Microsoft’s Chromium-based Edge browser is unaffected, which will fuel conspiracy theorists looking to reignite the browser wars.

Pausing Windows 10 Updates is a smart move until a fix arrives for Chrome’s problems

Gordon Kelly

As it stands, Microsoft is only pushing the May 2020 update to Windows 10 users who manually ‘Check for updates’ but it is removing many of the restrictions which previously prevented it from being installed. This despite a raft of problems and some fundamentally flawed testing

What should you do? The obvious answer is: Stay away from the May 2020 update and wait for a fix (whichever company provides it). For those who have already updated, there is no one fix which works for everyone but the one with the highest success rate comes from Google engineer Tavis Ormandy and flushes a master key cache:

  • Start > Event Viewer > Applications and Services > Microsoft > Windows > Crypto-DPAPI > Operational
  • Check for errors (his fix is dependent on errors being found here) – if Yes
  • Close all Chrome Windows
  • Press Win+L to lock your computer
  • Unlock, then start Chrome

I have reached out to both Microsoft and Google and will update this post when I have a response.

AT&T confirms thousands of job cuts, 250 store closings – Axios

AT&T confirmed to Axios it is planning widespread job cuts that include managers and executives, in addition to 3,400 technician and clerical jobs. It will also close 250 retail stores, impacting 1,300 retail jobs.

Why it matters: While the cuts can’t be separated from the COVID-19 impact on the economy, the moves also come as the mobile industry has consolidated from four national players to three following T-Mobile’s acquisition of Sprint.

Details: The stores facing closure are a mix of AT&T-branded locations and those of Cricket Wireless, AT&T’s prepaid brand, according to the Communication Workers of America, which represents some of AT&T’s employees.

  • AT&T confirmed the cuts, but did not give a specific total number, other than to say the job reductions were “sizable.”
  • AT&T said the store closures were planned, but accelerated by the pandemic. Most store employees will be offered another job with AT&T, the company said.
  • Laid-off workers will receive severance pay and six months of company-provided healthcare, AT&T said.

What they’re saying:

  • AT&T: In a statement to Axios, AT&T said the cuts stem from lower demand for some legacy products, as well as the impact of the pandemic. As a result, there will be targeted, but sizable reductions in our workforce across executives, managers and union-represented employees, consistent with our previously announced transformation initiative. Additionally, we’ll be eliminating more non-payroll workers — the vast majority of which are outside the United States — than we are managers or union-represented employees.”
  • CWA: “If we are in a war to keep our economy going during this crisis, why is AT&T dismissing the troops?” Communications Workers of America president Chris Shelton said in a statement. The union also noted that the cuts come after hedge fund Elliott Management took a $3.2 billion stake in AT&T last year.

Meanwhile: In a statement, T-Mobile confirmed it is cutting some jobs too, though it didn’t say how many. But it notes it is hiring for 5,000 new positions over the next year as well. The company committed to growing its net employment as it sought regulatory approval to buy Sprint.

Chris Paul confirms report of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson trade offer for him in 2011 – ClutchPoints

NBA veteran point guard Chris Paul recently went on an Uninterrupted video interview, and one of the matters he discussed was the botched trade that would have sent him to the Golden State Warriors in 2011.

Apparently, the Dubs were willing to send both Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to the New Orleans Pelicans (then Hornets) in exchange for Paul. The 10-time NBA All-Star confirmed the story and explained why he ultimately rejected the deal.

That’s how much value Chris Paul had at that time. Moreover, this was before the Splash Brothers era, which explains why the Warriors were willing to give up both Curry and Thompson. What could have been.

According to Paul, his decision at that time stemmed from his unwillingness to move to San Francisco. Then again, the NBA floor general ended up with the Los Angeles Clippers that same summer, which is just in the same state as the Bay Area.

As Paul implied, he has now learned to love the city of L.A., having been living there for almost a decade now. He did make a move to the Thunder in the summer of 2019, but it is obvious that the City of Angels still holds a special place in his heart.

Paul was having an excellent season with the Thunder prior to the NBA suspension, averaging 17.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 1.6 steals per contest. He also helped the team to an impressive record in the West, as OKC emerged as one of the pleasant surprises of the season.
