Ed Boon appears to dispel rumors of a Mortal Kombat 11 announcement during DC FanDome… but not Injustice, though its chances dwindle too – EventHubs

If there is an Injustice reveal, we may be waiting almost a month

The big DC FanDome digital event is scheduled to begin later today, and while a fighting game announcement was appearing more an more likely for it, those chances are shrinking quite a bit — for now anyways.

Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon recently took to Twitter to seemingly debunk theories and rumors that NetherRealm Studios would be showing off new Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath content during DC FanDome while leaving the door open for Injustice. Other changes made that less likely too, however.

“It’s called DC FanDome,” wrote Boon on social media. “Not MK FanDome.”

Speculation there may have been some sort of MK11-related reveal came following DC’s initial trailer for the event briefly featuring Baraka with his Killer Croc skin.

Rumors began to circulate on places like 4chan saying things like we’ll see Cyrax and Sektor announced for Aftermath this weekend, but Warner Bros. have repeatedly stated FanDome is meant only for content regarding Detective Comics — and last I checked the cyborg ninjas are not part of that.

An appearance of a brand new Injustice title did, however, seem like a very probable candidate for a multitude of reasons though that too may be out the window.

Warner Bros. recently changed the schedule for DC FanDome to make the event two days instead of the initial one.

Pretty much all of the big reveals like The Batman, Black Adam and Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League will be happening during today’s, August 22’s, broadcast, and there’s not really any room for Injustice to fit in there now.

There was a “To Be Announced” event scheduled today before though that is no longer listed or has been replaced.

Ed Boon will still be presenting during the event though his portion will now be on the second day, September 12, where he’ll be on a panel to discuss the creation and workings of the Injustice universe.

Judging by their release schedule dating back to 2011, NetherRealm’s next title should be releasing in 2021 with Injustice 3 being the most obvious choice though Boon has said in the past the developer’s next project is not that or Mortal Kombat.

Injustice fighting games do look like they’ll make a return at some point considering NRS was specifically hiring for next generation projects tied to it and Mortal Kombat.

DC FanDome is scheduled to begin today at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET where WB is planning to showcase pretty much all they have to offer in the realm of heroes and villi ans with comics, movies, TV shows and video games currently in the pipeline.
